ITC Speeds Up Graphite Electrode Production.
Graphite Technologies increase capacity and flexibility thanks to ITC.
Midlands - based Graphite Technologies plc, part of the Tokai Carbon Group, is currently using a 65,000 rpm air driven spindle for the manufacture of solid - sinking EDM electrodes.
Graphite Technologies' David Law says : 'We offer a comprehensive electrode machining service to mould makers in the UK. We have a range of machining centres available for electrode production, but we needed more capacity and flexibility. We are now using an air turbine spineport Interact and a Takisawa machining centre. With 65,000 rpm an constant torque this unit has allowed us to produce finely detailed electrodes with an exceptional surface finish ; it has also been highly effective for machining our new high - density HK2, 15 and 75 grades of graphite.'
'We use cutters as small as 0.0006 in diameter, with a vibration free spindle cutter life is exceptional. The Air Turbine features an R8 taper for ease of use. In 18 months operation it has performed faultlessly and required no maintenance.' |
